Build, Design & Display:
Zenfone 5Z looks stunning as it offers glass back with the design of concentric-circle. There is 2.5D glass at both the front and rear. The device also feels premium in hand. The device sports a 6.2-inch Full HD+ IPS display with the resolution of 2246 x 1080 pixels. As the back is paired with glass, it is obvious to have fingerprints. There is also a plastic case inside the box, so it’s better to use it from the day one.
The display is not the AMOLED one but still looks nice and sharp. So far, I’ve no complaints from my side in the display. You can also adjust the color temperature, which could be one from Wide color gamut/ Standard/ Customized. And yeah, we’ve that Notch at the top in Asus Zenfone 5Z. You can also hide the notch from Display Settings, which will turn the background color of the status bar into black. One more complimentary thing this time is you can change the place of back and recent app key which means if you prefer the Samsung style button layout, you can switch to it too.
On the left side, there is a SIM card tray. Power button and volume lockers are on the right side. USB Type-C port is at the bottom and yeah it also comes with 3.5mm headphone jack. Kudos Asus for the 3.5mm jack. Though I liked it more if it has been kept at the top.
Performance, Battery Life & Storage:
There is nothing to worry in the performance aspect as Zenfone 5Z is paired with 6GB / 8GB of Ram and powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. I’ve played PUBG and it was running smoothly in high graphics. Even in multi-tasking, the device was blazingly fast. It’s running on ZenUI which is much better than previous generations of one.
I’m totally impressed by the Battery Life of Zenfone 5Z, it’ll easily last for a full day even with near 20% juice left. In my testing, once I got near about 7 hours of screen on time with mixed usage of 4G, Wi-Fi and yeah black wallpaper and black theme.
The storage you get out of the box in 64GB variant is approximately 53GB. Advantage in this device is that it supports MicroSD card, means that you can either insert the second SIM or expand the storage by MicroSD card.
To be honest, with the enhanced AI capabilities and the power of great hardware, the camera won’t be going to disappoint you. Images look impressive and the colors are natural even in the low lightning conditions. As AI is integrated into Zenfone 5Z, camera can automatically detect the scene mode. I’m really impressed by the detailing, sharpness and color accuracy maintained in the low-light conditions. Portraits come out to be good and the edge detection is also good. The secondary camera at rear can able to take wide-angle shots, which comes handy when you want to cover a lot of area. You can record videos up-to 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) resolution with 60 fps with video stabilization.
The front camera can able to take natural selfies. You can use screen flash in the night to illuminate your selfies, which looks better in compare to the normal one. There is also a Beautification mode available in case you like to brighten up your selfies.

Final Thoughts on Asus Zenfone 5Z
After using it for over a month, I can certainly say; it is a value for money. Currently, it is my daily driver because I’ve purchased this device after the review unit went back, as I really liked the battery life and the snappy performance of Zenfone 5Z. If you don’t like the Asus ZenUI, or if you’re not the person who likes the notch at the top, then you wouldn’t consider buying this device. Let me know your thoughts in the comment section.
