Asus Zenfone Live Review

Nowadays, going live from a social network has become so common. Many media guys prefer to go live at least once in a week to stay up-to-date with their users. This time, Asus comes with a smartphone which focuses more on live video stream. Let’s find out if it lives to its claims or not.

Build, Design and Display

Asus Zenfone Live

From the back, Zenfone Live looks like an iPhone. Device looks nice with its sleek design and with 2.5D curved display. This device is very lightweight (120 grams). The Zenfone Live has a 5-inch IPS display that has a 1280x720 (HD) resolution. This display is surrounded by a slim 2.36mm bezel and has a 75% screen-to-body ratio. Overall, the design of the device seems impressive. The brightness was also good in the direct sunlight. Viewing angles are good. Thanks to lightweight and small size, the device is great for those who prefer smaller devices.

Performance, Battery Life

Device comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 16GB Internal Storage along with 2GB of RAM and the Adreno 305 Graphics chip. The phone comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, along with the ZenUI 3.0 which offers much customization options that will make the Zenfone Live truly yours!

Storage available out of the box from 16GB is approximately 9.6GB. In my opinion, it’s 2017 and I think OEMs should at-least provide 32GB storage out of the box.

I’ve played Real Racing 3 which ran without any frame drops. Talking about device based upon regular tasks, it can handle it smoothly. Multi-tasking was also quick. Speaker does produce loud and quality sound.

Device is powered by 2650mAh (non-removable) battery. It took me almost 2 hours and 25 minutes to charge the device from 11% to 100%. The battery backup was good for me, was able to get more than 5 hours of Screen on time on VoLTE. Definitely, 720p screen is helping for the better battery life.

Asus Zenfone Live

Device features 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and LED Flash. On the front side, it features 5MP camera with f/2.2 aperture and LED Flash. As comes with most of Asus devices, it also features many camera modes, to name a few, Beautification, Low Light, Selfie, Night, etc.

Pictures taken in outdoor conditions, were good. But in night/low light/indoor conditions, pictures lack good detailing. The front camera sometimes generates images with over sharpening. Even in some bright light conditions in indoor, it doesn’t produce quality images. Asus should really improve their camera quality. Sample Full HD video recorded from Zenfone Live is here. I've uploaded some sample shots below.

Final Thoughts on Zenfone Live

The device performs well for the regular tasks, but the result of the camera and only 2GB Ram is less satisfying, because in this price range, one can get a device with more ram and more storage and good camera. The main issue is that images captured from the device, often comes with over sharpness. Asus really need to improve in the camera department. The live beautification seems good but not in night/indoor conditions.

Thanks to Asus India for sending me a review unit of Asus Zenfone Live.
